“I founded Four Suns after watching a meaningful shift in the work environment: away from culture-building and employee-centered leadership, and toward a more corporatized, bottom-line driven reality. In that shift, I saw capable leaders strained in more ways than ever before—carrying relentless performance expectations, rising complexity, and human responsibility—often without the leadership development tools and resources needed to truly rise to the occasion.
That conviction was strengthened through my doctoral research, which emphasized the value of executive coaching—particularly in the professional development of women physician medical school deans. Combining that evidence base with my own practical experience in complex organizations, I chose to pursue formal coach training so I could serve leaders with rigor, credibility, and care. Four Suns was established to bring clarity to leadership across every stage of the journey and to help leaders sustain high performance without losing the human core of leadership.”

Marlana K. Beck, Ph.D., M.P.A., is the founder of Four Suns Executive Coaching and a trusted thought partner to executive leaders navigating growth, complexity, and high-stakes transitions. Over more than twenty years at Mayo Clinic, she served in leadership roles across education, clinical practice, and enterprise-facing strategy—experience that informs how she helps leaders build alignment, credibility, and momentum under pressure.
Her work includes global academic medicine and healthcare collaborations with universities, health systems, industry, and government partners, with fluency in regulatory and accreditation environments that shape medical education and clinical training. This perspective grounds Four Suns in real operating conditions leaders must navigate: culture, governance, risk, talent, quality expectations, and rapid change.
Marlana also served as Chief Executive Officer of IPS Lynx (2014–2023), building and leading a company focused on functional assessments and workplace injury prevention. Her operator experience—building teams, managing performance, and empowering people—informs coaching that is practical, accountable, and human-centered.
